Personal letters and excerpts:

Dear Doug and Zita,

I would like to thank you for a spectacular elk hunt with you this September. I understand now why you have few openings. I have hunted elk all over the West and have taken over 25 bulls with a bow. I must commend you on a first-class outfit. Your guides, equipment, accommodations, food and location are first rate. Garrett was an exceptional guide. The number of elk, including 330 plus bulls in the single day I hunted was unbelievable. It was exciting to have 200 elk file by within 60 yards for over an hour. I hope the rest of your season is as successful as ours was. I would like to rebook for the same week in September of 2015 for 2 people if possible. I would be honored to be a reference for you. I look forward to your updated photo album and newsletter. Sincerely, Paul Pare'

Doug,

Thanks so much for a great hunt. I made it back to Spokane and had the meat in the locker by 2:00 pm on Friday. Good thing as it was 63 degrees by the time I got there. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you, Garrett, Dustin, Sid and Vicky as well as all of the hunters. You have a real first-class operation and as I told you earlier, character means everything.
I plan to do it again and would appreciate you holding a spot for me on the first hunt of 2016. Please let me know when the deposit should be sent. Again, many thanks for a wonderful time. Best, Jack Reeves

Dear Doug and Zita,

Thank you for an outstanding hunting experience! The camp, the country, the cooking, your staff - top notch - the BEST!
Garrett put us on Elk everyday with real opportunities for trophy animals. My first elk - a great experience - Thank you all.
I look forward to another great hunt in the future.

Sincerely, Rich Snapper

Doug,

Many thanks from the Zschoche's. The accommodations are great. The food was delicious. The guides are terrific. The country is amazing. Most of all the hunting is exceptional. We all really enjoyed spending the week up here with everyone. Everything was greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Tommy, Mark, Corey, Tom

Hi Doug and Zita,

Thank you for your exceptional communication. My 2010 hunt with Avalanche was the best hunt ever. Your accommodations were great, food was tremendous, and the professionalism of the guides was superb. I am sooo looking forward to our next hunt. Dustin worked very hard for us.

Thanks again, Ray Rock

Doug,

We had a great time hunting with you this year. You run a very professional, client focused business which is very rare in your industry. It was a pleasure spending the week with you and your competent staff.

Dave Schoenbeck - NJ

Doug and Zita, I hope all is well.

My hunting experience with you guys was absolutely incredible. The memories that I made in Montana will last a lifetime. You guys run a first-class facility from the accommodations to the guides, the cook, and all of the above. I now know why they say you guys are the best outfit and I truly believe that. Each day I look at the pictures and can't wait to return. I hope that the rest of the season has been going well for you. I wanted to send you this email and update you guys with my new address so that I may receive the newsletter that Doug sends out. Also, I was not able to take any pictures of the deer that I killed, and I would greatly appreciate it if Doug could send me those in the mail. Once again thanks for everything, I look forward to hearing from you guys soon.

Drew Evans - AL

Hello Doug and Zita,

First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" for all of your expertise and guidance. My hunt was fantastic and is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my days. I cannot say enough glowing adjectives to describe your great outfitting operation. My experience was of the highest quality. Thank you Doug!!
My early winter is rolling right along, Christmas is around the corner. Where does the time go? I trust all is well with you and yours. Our elk meat should be coming soon, I have tried some loin already and it has great flavor. I am excited to see the pictures and appreciate your correspondence. Thanks again for a tremendous hunt and great camaraderie.

Sincerely, Gregg Kempken - WI

Hi Folks,

Hope all is well and you’re getting the camps in order for next year. I'm sure it will be nice to take a couple days off.
Doug, I can't thank you enough for making my Montana experience the most memorable hunt of my life. Although I wasn't successful with getting "my bull" the number of animals we saw reinforced the fact that I picked the right place to hunt them. As was my case learning to Deer hunt, it takes time to become comfortable when encountering those magnificent animals and hopefully all the experience I've gained with Elk will be stored in my memory banks and the next time all the pieces will be in place. I also can't express the gratitude I have for sharing my FIRST Mule Deer with you and what a DANDY it is. I saw how hard you worked getting me into position to take that Trophy and to share it with you is something I will always remember.
Attached are some photos taken to keep those events always fresh in my mind and the fact we did it together will always be special. God willing we'll get that elk next year. Again, thank you for everything, please give my best to all. You had an excellent crew working for you and it would be nice to see them again next year. Wishing you and yours a Blessed and Safe Holiday season, and hope to hear from you soon.

Warmly, Dave Kessler - PA

Hey Doug and Zita,

I just had to tell you what a great time I had while on my hunt. As I told you, I had been looking forward for over 35 years to the day I might be able to go on an elk hunt. I guess I never thought I would get to make the hunt, but I had the dream and that was ok.
Doug, I must say that from start to finish it was one first class hunting experience. From meeting you and Zita and your fine boys on, you, Shane, Chad and Sandy all made this experience one I will always hold in my mind and heart. You may take a lot of guys on hunts, but you will NEVER take one on a hunt that holds a hunt so dear to them as I will for the rest of my life.
I hope I can make the hunt again in two years but if not, I will have the wonderful memories of this one.
Thanks again, for making a dream come true.

Chuck Burnette - GA

Doug,

You may remember I hunted with your outfit many years ago with Butch Trudo and Charlie Carlo. Many times, while on hunts we have reminisced on the fantastic elk hunt with you and your guides. I can still remember the beautiful country with bountiful animals. Although I still have nightmares over Aaron calling me off a point-blank shot, in the clear cut, on a record book elk. I have tremendous satisfaction when I sit in my trophy room and relive the stalk and kill of the elk harvested at 31 yards after Aaron cow called the elk to me. Also, the look on Aaron's face when I double lunged a whitetail at the bridge at 43 yards with a 20 yard pin. I have dreamed many times of returning to Montana for another opportunity at Mr. Big. This may never take place in my lifetime, but the Lord has rewarded me with many experiences in his animal kingdom.
I enjoy receiving your newsletter and I read it from cover to cover. I marvel at the number of misses on these large animals, the boys from New York must be the above average bow hunters. But, I must say the experience of hunting with your group has left an ever-lasting impression on me. I have a grandson who just turned 13 and someday maybe I will have an opportunity to take him to Montana. Joshua is a pure archer and has the same form as Charlie Carlo-----he has shot instinctive since the age of 7 yrs. and just this year I have converted him to a release. After receiving your newsletter, I just had to send this email.
Doug, thanks again for the best hunting experience of my life.

Tom Le Clair - NY

Dear Doug and Zita,

I certainly enjoyed hunting with your crew. Your camp was the most efficient and organized of any outfitters that I have ever hunted with. Hope to go with you again sometime in the future.

Vern Mattie - IL

Dear Doug,

First, I would like to thank you, Zita, Chad, Gordon, and Sandy for a memorable hunting trip. It was truly one of the best trips that I have ever been on.
Secondly, I would like to let you know that Chad Evans was an excellent guide. Chad always presented himself as a professional even through some difficult events. He was always courteous, safety minded, humorous, and a pleasure to be around. He never strayed from his objective, which was getting Kenneth and myself an elk.
Thirdly, I would like to reserve a spot for four hunters in the year 2001. Please call me at your earliest convenience to discuss available dates. Thank you.

Bob Jeans - VA

Dear Doug and Zita,

Thank you for providing the hunting opportunity of a lifetime! I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the hunting trip and look forward to coming back for another hunt.
Your hard work and dedication in making every available shooting opportunity for your clients while providing excellent facilities and outstanding pre and post-hunt logistical work made the hunt so enjoyable. While successful kills are ultimately dependent on the hunter's work ethic and abilities to stalk and shoot effectively, your operation made every effort possible to ensure that an opportunity was never missed. In this light, it's little wonder that I walked away with a beautiful mule deer buck and a nice bull.
You and your staff should be commended for a job well done. Without a doubt, I plan to return for another opportunity. Although your exceptional record speaks for itself, please feel free to use me as a reference.

Best regards, Kiel P. Weaver - VA

Dear Doug, Zita, Todd and Matt,

I have meant to write to you sooner to thank you once again for another very enjoyable hunt. I especially enjoyed the last day hunting with Chad, Todd, and Matt. It reminded me of when I was that age and how excited I was to be able to go hunting with my dad or friends. It is great to see young kids that excited to go hunting and be with their dad.
As I have told you many times before, I always look forward to my hunts with you and the time I get to spend with you. I am already looking forward to next year's elk hunt and this winter's lion hunt. I hope to be able to go on many more hunts with you in the future.

Terry Hansen - WA

Dear Doug and Family,

I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and keeping warm. The other guys and myself would like to thank you and your staff for the best hunting trip we have ever been on.
Kyle and Chavis will be revealing about their Elk for years to come and how much better hunters they are than Rick and myself. On the other hand, if we can stop Mike from talking about starting his own guide service he will be bearable again. Now with Randy he has finally reached on of his goals "to become a big game hunter", no matter the size of the Elk.
In parting, I would hope to hunt with you many more years if you keep guiding. Again, thanks so much for a great time.

Sincerely, Daniel Rapier - OH

Hi Doug,

I just wanted to write and thank you and everyone involved for a great hunt this year. We had a good flight back home and didn't lose anything on the way. We brought everything to the taxidermist and he was very pleased with the capes, so hopefully in about six months we'll get our heads back and we can relive everything all over again. We got some pictures back and have some more coming. As soon as I get the rest back I'll send you some of the elk pictures.
Again, Doug if you ever need references for New Jersey feel free to use mine or Paul's name anytime. You have a first-rate outfit and we had a great time.

Thanks again, Richard Ogborn - NJ

Dear Doug and Zita,

I really have to say that my first "big game" hunt was an experience which I will not forget. As you can imagine the story about how I bagged my elk has been retold many times. Yes, Doug every detail even "clank, click and dunk" has been included in the story.
Avalanche Outfitters is an organization that is extremely well operated. The care and sincere interest taken in the hunters is very apparent. I would not hesitate a recommendation to anyone going out west. The elk I got was the icing on the cake - the trip was completely enjoyable. Thanks for making my first "big game" hunt a remarkable experience.

Regards, Gary Parks - CT

Dear Zita and "Clyde",

Just a note to thank you so very much for a wonderful week spent with your "Outfit" and the wonderful hunting and success which we so much enjoyed.
In previous hunts, some of which were far more expensive, I thought I was with an outfitter, but I didn't even know what an outfitter was until I came to you for your fine guidance and hunting expertise.
I would recommend you over any and all outfitters with whom I have dealt previously by far. They are not even in the same class with you.
Would it be possible for me to obtain a few of the pictures made of my elk prior to the Thanksgiving week? I need some of these for bragging when I get out to visit my daughter and son-in-law in Scottsdale on Thanksgiving.
Thanks once again for a very wonderful time and an excellent hunt. It was very successful in my opinion. I shall recommend you highly to all people.

Very sincerely yours, Joseph G. Klotz, M.D. - TX
